Samba-style Ambience in NANTES
Starting on 10 June, the Saint-André courtyard located behind NANTES cathedral will be transformed into a Brazilian beach and will host dozens of sporting and cultural events
2,800 tons of sand from the Loire estuary have already been transported there by a hundred lorries whose comings and goings have been stirring things up in the city of NANTES for the past week. After its inauguration on 10 June at 10 h 00, the Copacabana Beach will be filled with the world’s top beach volleyball players from 12 to 14 June. Young people will be able to participate in their own World Beach Volleyball Tournament from 1 to 11 July. On the same beach on 17 June there will also be tennis-football games and petaca (a Brazilian game) matches. The sandcastle-building contest will take place on the 20th. All of these activities are open to the general public, who may sign up on-site .
Music hasn’t been forgotten as there are 39 free concerts planned over a period of 27 days. A giant T.V. screen in the Saint-Pierre courtyard, right across from the Saint-André courtyard, will allow 10,000 people to follow all of the World Cup matches, also at no cost.
